In January of 2009, United Way was integral in organizing a group to proactively address the needs of the growing unemployed families in our community. The group’s purpose was to help those facing foreclosure, food shortages and related short-term and long-term financial sustainability issues. This county-wide collaborative became known as the “As One Unemployment Task Force.
Job Seekers Networking Group
The focus of the Job Seekers Networking Group is to help underemployed and unemployed people achieve the next step in their career. Meetings consist of idea sharing, group presentations, open discussions, and group activities geared toward equipping people with tools to meet their new challenges. Each meeting includes guest speakers that provide information and group exercises to develop valuable job search and networking skills. The group meets every Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the Sheboygan & Plymouth Area United Way, 2020 Erie Avenue in Sheboygan (lower level).

Learn about common myths that may prevent you from getting a job.
Discuss tips you can use to make the most of your job interview. Meeting are from 6-7 pm at the Sheboygan United Way Building (lower level). Call (920) 458-3425 with questions. There is no fee.

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with over 60 million members and growing rapidly. LinkedIn connects you to your trusted contacts and helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals. Go to Linkedin, set up your profile and start adding your connections to your network. Your connections might help you get an inside lead on an unposted job. Once you have set up your profile, you can then join our group, Sheboygan Area Unemployment Support Group and connect directly with our members.
Help for Hard Times
"As One’s" first project was printing 25,000 brochures called “Help for Hard Times” filled with information on resources available for the unemployed and underemployed. With the assistance of Lakeshore Technical College and the City of Sheboygan Planning Department, these free brochures are available throughout the County. An educational DVD based on the brochure providing even more resources and information quickly followed. A total of 10,000 DVD’s are now being distributed free to those in need at various locations in the community and are available at the United Way office. View Help for Hard Times Guide. Managing Stress During Tough Times
If you have lost a job or are facing financial difficulties in the economy times are tough. Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp.
The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) is implementing a comprehensive and collaborative program of business retention, expansion, and attraction efforts for Sheboygan County. The SCEDC’s core services and responsibilities include the following elements:

* Business attraction and recruitment
* Financing tools
* Entrepreneurial business development
* Workforce
* Community initiatives
* Investors
* Coordination and communication
The SCEDC’s website provides community statistics on overall quality of life in Sheboygan County through education, safety, housing and health care. This website is full of great resources, whether you are an entrepreneur, business owner, or an employee relocating to the county.
No- Interest Loan Fund
The United Way allocated $5,000 which was matched by the churches affiliated with the Sheboygan County Interfaith Organization (SCIO) to develop a small no-interest loan fund to help people with unexpected crises which create barriers in getting to work such as car repairs and food security issues. These loans can be accessed through local participating churches.
