

Programs
The Planning & Allocations Committee of the United Way has approved the 2008 allocation of $1,680,198 to fund the following programs through these 25 United Way affiliated agencies. These programs play an integral part in the ability of The Sheboygan & Plymouth Area United Way to service the needs of our community.
211 Sheboygan Program
Through United Way funding, this free and confidential non-emergency information and referral line is now available in Sheboygan County 24/7 providing one easy-to-remember number, 2-1-1, to help individuals find resources to assist them in their community.
Above & Beyond Children’s Museum
A program for children which provides reduced admission to the Above & Beyond Children’s Museum and its programs for low to moderate income families.
Alzheimer’s Association Programs - New
Outreach Program
Alzheimer’s Association services to Sheboygan County residents will be increased to 16 hours per week.
Health Fairs
Alzheimer’s Association will attend local health fairs to distribute information on Alzheimer’s disease and services available through Alzheimer’s Association.
American Red Cross Programs
Armed Forces Emergency Services
Provides vital link between members of military and their families at home.
Blood Program
Conduct Sheboygan County blood drives which provide blood products to many hospitals throughout the United States.
Community Disaster Education
Provide community-wide education for natural and man-made disaster preparation.
Community and International Services
Provide international tracing services and classes on international law.
Disaster Services
Local response to small disasters, i.e. single family fires; prepare and train local volunteers to respond to larger nation and worldwide disasters.
Health and Safety Services
Provide training to community and workplace for CPR, First Aid, AED, Water Safety, Babysitting, etc.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters Programs
Community-Based Mentoring
Their traditional one-to-one program.
School-Based Mentoring
Lunch Buddies, After-school Buddies, HASA (Hmong Program).
Boy Scouts of America-Bay-Lakes Council Program
Provides opportunities for young men and women to learn and practice leadership skills, citizenship education, ethical decision making and teamwork. Lessens risk of anti-social activities, i.e. drugs and alcohol.
Boys and Girls Club Program
After-School Programs which provide all children ages 6-18 regardless of economic and social challenges, opportunities to participate in positive youth development focused activities outside of school hours. After-School Programs are currently located at the Stayer Center and Washington Elementary School in Sheboygan, in Howards Grove and now in Sheboygan Falls.
Camp Evergreen - New
A traditional summer camp program from mid-June to mid-August which serves children and adults with cognitive, emotional, physical and learning disabilities.
Catholic Charities Programs
Family Counseling
Agency is State Certified Outpatient Mental Health Clinic providing outpatient counseling for individuals, families, children and couples. Accepts third party payers, Medicare, Medicaid and self-pay.
Refugee Resettlement
Provides case management services to refugees and sponsoring/anchor families until they are self-sufficient.
Children’s Service Society Programs
Child and Family Counseling
Counseling for children with adjustment problems.
Options for Families (OFF)
Parenting classes.
Parent Aide
Education and support for parents who have abused or neglected their children.
Supervised Visitation Centers
A safe place for kids to visit their non-custodial parent.
Family Connections Programs
Child Care Referral
Assists parents in searching for child care information on regulated providers (i.e. certified and/or licensed family or child care center providers).
Child Care Resource Development
Provide the development of child care so that providers meet regulatory standards to prevent child abuse/neglect situations.
REACH
Provides local case management support for Sheboygan County referrals made by 2-1-1, a nation-wide non-emergency health and human services information and referral help line.
Sheboygan Housing Assistance Center
A program providing direct assistance to qualified families and individuals in need of housing.
Family Resource Center Programs
Bilingual Outreach/Hispanic Families in Sheboygan County
A home visiting program for Spanish-speaking first time parents and their babies.
Increased Care by Choice
An enhancement to home-visiting programs by providing intensive services to families with specific needs, i.e. economic strife, premature and special needs babies, families dealing with divorce of separation.
Military Families Connect
Provide education and support of our area military families and to build community awareness of their needs.
Literacy Council Project –Partners in Reading
Pairs Literacy Council volunteers with elementary school children in Sheboygan County schools.
Literacy Council Project – One to One Adult Tutoring
Pairs Literacy Council volunteers with adults wanting to improve reading skills; includes inmates at Sheboygan County Jail and KMCI.
Parents as Teachers/Home Visit Teen Parents
Provides new parents with the help they need to give their baby the best possible start in life.
Family Service Association Programs
Family Crises, Budget and Credit Counseling
Provides budget assessments and financial counseling.
Financial Literacy and Education
Provides financial literacy programs.
Prison Pre-release Education Program
Provides financial literacy programs and family support for incarcerated individuals and their families.
Foster Grandparents Programs
Elderly Care and Support
Low income older adults gain purpose and fulfillment mentoring elementary school students in need while earning a small tax-free income, thereby improving their physical, mental and social well-being.
Seniors for Schools
Similar to program above but all restrictive federal guidelines on age and income are eliminated allowing more older adults to reach more children in need in the schools.
Girl Scouts of Manitou Council Program
Through the Girl Scout Youth Development program to prevent drug and alcohol abuse, girls develop girl-adult partnerships to learn improved decision-making skills making them better equipped to avoid drug and alcohol abuse.
Hmong Community Family Care Program
Provides family case management services to Limited English Proficient (LEP) Hmong families.
Lutheran Social Services Programs
Counseling
Professional counseling for individuals and families of all ages; sliding fee scale within LSS and Sheboygan Senior Center; outreach counseling in community available.
Project Youth
Project Youth believes in young people and their ability to improve their lives by working to improve communication and connection between teens and parents in Sheboygan County. Services include free, confidential family problem solving sessions (mediation), a toll-free 24-hour help line, educational groups and community workshops on topics related to teens. Project Youth also follows up with parents that report their child as a runaway.
Quest/Life Skills Program
Provides an 11-session alcohol and drug abuse prevention curriculum to 5th graders in Sheboygan County schools. Program will be expanded to include asset-based life skills sessions in the county for ages 10-18.
Meals on Wheels Program
Program utilizes over 1,000 volunteers to deliver meals to the homebound, elderly and disabled in the county, while making valuable daily health and safety checks on each recipient.
Mental Health America Programs
Community Service/Advocacy
Collaborate with other agencies to provide programs supporting mental well-being including coordination/technical support for four self-help groups.
Education
Programs for schools, adult education, health fairs and annual screenings for mental disorders.
Individual Assistance Program (IAP)
Assists individuals in navigating the mental health system and other care systems operating in the county
Medical Services
Provides emergency funding for psychotropic medications for needy individuals being treated for a mental disorder and helping them find additional sources for assistance.
Partners for Community Development Programs
The Hispanic-American Information Center
Provides information to Hispanic Americans about resources available to help them positively integrate themselves and their families into the community.

Rainbows
Support group for children 4-18 experiencing loss due to death, divorce, separation, abandonment or community crisis event.
Prism
Support group for parents whose family is experiencing loss due to death, divorce, separation, abandonment or community crisis event.
Safe Harbor Program
Domestic Abuse Services
Provides victims of domestic abuse with 24-hour crisis intervention, education, resources and support to help them understand their options and resources that can help them cope with and rebuild their lives from the effects they are experiencing.
Salvation Army Programs
Bread of Life Program/Plymouth
Provide community assistance with food, clothing, shelter and utilities in emergency situations in the Plymouth area.
Comprehensive Services
Provides Food Pantry; financial assistance with rent, utilities, work boots, etc.
Emergency Lodge
Provides the only homeless shelter in a 5-county area.
Red Shield Clinic
Provides free medical/dental services to low income uninsured individuals at a clinic staffed by volunteer medical doctors and nurses.
Sheboygan Child Care Center
Day care programs for children including those from low income families.
Transitional Living Program - New
Provides 12-18 months of supported transitional living for single individuals with mental health and/or addiction issues who are self-referred, referred through other agencies or living in the Salvation Army Emergency Lodge.
Youth Programs
Provides character building and support.
Sheboygan Area Even Start - New
Family Literacy Program
Qualified low income families with infants through pre-school age children receive improved academic skills for at-risk children and active involvement of parents in their child’s education by enrollment in ESL, HSED/GED classes; upgrading of skills to lead to employment/gaining health care for low-income families; provides parenting education and home visits.
Sheboygan County Interfaith Organization Program
Beyond Bridgeway-Transitional Living Program
Teaches single mothers how to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency for the long-term rather than continue to cycle through the “system” repeatedly.
Visiting Nurse Association Programs
Home Health Care and Hospice
Identify and provide home care/hospice/durable medical equipment services to those who would otherwise fall through the health care system cracks.
