The Planning & Allocations Committee and the Board of Directors of the United Way has approved the 2011 allocations to fund the following programs through United Way affiliated agencies. These programs play an integral part in the ability of The Sheboygan & Plymouth Area United Way to service the needs of our community.

 

211 Fox Cities

Through United Way funding, this free and confidential non-emergency information and referral line is available in Sheboygan County 24/7 providing one easy to remember number, 2-1-1, to help individuals find resources to assist them in their community.

Alzheimer’s Association Programs

Outreach Program
Alzheimer’s Association services to Sheboygan County residents will be increased to 16 hours per week.

American Red Cross Programs

Armed Forces Emergency Services

Provides vital link between members of military and their families at home.

Blood Program

Conduct Sheboygan County blood drives which provide blood products to many hospitals throughout the United States.

Community and International Services

Provide international tracing services and classes on international law.
($8,000)

 

Disaster Services

Local response to small disasters, i.e. single family fires; prepare and train local volunteers to respond to larger nation and worldwide disasters.

Provide training to community and workplace for CPR, First Aid, AED, Water Safety, Babysitting, etc.

Community-Based Mentoring

A traditional one-to-one adult to child mentoring program.

Boy Scouts of America-Bay-Lakes Council Program

Comprehensive Youth Development - Provides opportunities for young men and women to learn and practice leadership skills, citizenship education, ethical decision making and teamwork which lessen the risks of anti-social activities, i.e. drugs and alcohol.

Boys and Girls Club Program

Provides After-School Programs which provide all children ages 6-18 regardless of economic and social challenges, opportunities to participate in positive youth development focused activities outside of school hours.  After-School Programs are currently operating in the above four locations in Sheboygan County.

Camp Evergreen

A traditional summer camp program from mid-June to mid-August which serves children and adults with cognitive, emotional, physical and learning disabilities.

Family & Behavioral Counseling
The agency is State Certified Outpatient Mental Health Clinic providing outpatient counseling for individuals, families, children and couples.  Accepts third party payers, Medicare, Medicaid and self-pay.

Refugee Resettlement

Provides case management services to refugees and sponsoring/anchor families until they are self-sufficient.

Assists the needs of individuals in times of crisis by encouraging and empowering them to make community connections to create greater self-sufficiency.  No fees.

Bilingual Outreach/Hispanic Families in Sheboygan County
A home visiting program for Spanish-speaking first time parents and their babies.

Increased Care by Choice

An enhancement to home-visiting programs by providing intensive services to families with specific needs, i.e. economic strife, premature and special needs babies, families dealing with divorce of separation.

Military Families Connect

Provide education and support of our area military families and to build community awareness of their needs.

Literacy Council Project – One to One Adult Tutoring

Pairs Literacy Council volunteers with adults wanting to improve reading skills; includes inmates at Sheboygan County Jail and KMCI.

Provides new parents with the help they need to give their baby the best possible start in life.

Similar to program above but all restrictive federal guidelines on age and income are eliminated allowing more older adults to reach more children in need in the schools.

Girl Scouts of Manitou Council Program

Through the Girl Scout Youth Development program to prevent drug and alcohol abuse, girls develop girl-adult partnerships to learn improved decision-making skills making them better equipped to avoid drug and alcohol abuse.

The Family Care Program
Provides family case management services to Limited English Proficient (LEP) Hmong families.

Lutheran Social Services Programs

Counseling

Professional counseling for individuals and families of all ages; sliding fee scale within LSS and Sheboygan Senior Center; outreach counseling in community available.

Project Youth

Project Youth believes in young people and their ability to improve their lives by working to improve communication and connection between teens and parents in Sheboygan County.  Services include free, confidential family problem solving sessions (mediation), a toll-free 24-hour help line, educational groups and community workshops on topics related to teens.  Project Youth also follows up with parents that report their child as a runaway.

Meals on Wheels Program

Program utilizes over 1,000 volunteers to deliver meals to the homebound, elderly and disabled in the county, while making valuable daily health and safety checks on each recipient.

Collaborate with other agencies to provide programs supporting mental well-being including coordination/technical support for four self-help groups.

Provides information to Hispanic Americans about resources available to help them positively integrate themselves and their families into the community.

Support group for children 4-18 experiencing loss due to death, divorce, separation, abandonment or community crisis event.

Safe Harbor Program

Domestic Abuse Services

Services include a 24-hour hotline, shelter, crisis counseling, peer support groups, assistance in obtaining restraining orders, legal referral and advocacy, accompaniment to court, emergency financial assistance and referral services.

Comprehensive Services
Provides Food Pantry at Salvation Army facility; financial assistance with rent, utilities, work boots, etc.

Provides 12-18 months of supported transitional living for single individuals with mental health and/or addiction issues who are self-referred, referred through other agencies or living in the Salvation Army Emergency Lodge.

Provides character building and support to families in need.

Rental Assistance Program

Provides rental assistance to qualified individuals on a monthly basis.

Provides community assistance with food, clothing, shelter and utilities in emergency situations in the Plymouth area.

Sheboygan Area Family Literacy Program

Qualified low income families with infants through pre-school age children receive improved academic skills for at-risk children and active involvement of parents in their child’s education by enrollment in ESL, HSED/GED classes; upgrading of skills to lead to employment/gaining health care for low-income families; provides parenting education and home visits.

Beyond Bridgeway-Transitional Living Program
This program teaches single mothers how to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency for the long-term rather than continue to cycle through the “system” repeatedly.

The Sheboygan and Plymouth Area United Way provides leadership and works with agency and non-agency collaborators to support impact initiatives that focus on the communities greatest needs.

Created through a $20,000 grant from United Way in 2006, this community collaborative will open the Lakeshore Community Health Center in 2011 to provide health care for Sheboygan County’s most needy individuals and families.

Food Clearing House
The Tri-County Food Initiative (aka Food for Tomorrow) is a collaborative effort of the United Ways of Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Fond du Lac Counties to build on existing resources to sustain and expand the food delivery systems in the tri-county area to meet present and future food needs.

Nourish
A program supported through Sheboygan County Interfaith Organization and United Way to build collaboration between local farmers and participants to prepare meals inspired by fresh, locally grown ingredients for struggling families who deserve to eat well.

The As One Task Force produces a help for hard times brochure and DVD containing basic resources found in Sheboygan County and holds a weekly “Job Seekers Network” that provides support for the unemployed and the underemployed.
